A bill that would require mandatory gun registration is currently making its way through the Pennsylvania Assembly. House Bill 768, if passed, would require gun owners to register their firearms with the Pennsylvania State Police.

Part of the registration process would include filling out an application that included:

• Name, age, sex and date of birth
• Personal and business addresses
• Telephone number
• Social security number
• Citizenship status
• Make, model, caliber/gauge, type and serial number of each firearm
• Two photographs taken within 30 days immediately prior to the date of filing the application equivalent to passport size showing the full face, head and shoulders of the applicant in a clear and distinguishing manner
• Fingerprints

The application will be approved or denied within 30 days. If approved, a certificate will be provided to the gun owner, who is expected to carry the piece of paper with the firearm at all times. Police would also be allowed to stop people and ask gun owners if he or she is carrying their certificate with them.

  1. This is so ridiculous!! This is just another way to strong arm the American citizen to disarm them !! I oppose this bill and any government official who votes for this should take a long hard look at the constitution!!!!!

  2. HB 768 is just a redundant law that is already accomplished by the federal background check that is completed with every firearm purchase. The FFL dealer registers the firearm upon completion of the sale and a background check is completed by the FBI. The FBI database would contain the complete identification of the individual making the purchase. The HB 768 would require the owner of a firearm to register each firearm annually at a cost of ten dollars for each permit. Have you considered the cost for a person who owns multiple firearms because they shoot target as a hobby or on a completion level.
This bill is nothing more than harassment of citizens who own firearms legally for hunting or target shooting.
The bill does not address the criminal with illegal firearms. Plus consider the time and personnel that would be required to register the vast number of guns in PA.
    Thank You. ⚖️

  3. Although solutions to the gun violence in our society have proven difficult at best I fail to see the purpose of this Bill except possibly as an attempt to burden gun ownership with as many legal straps as possible to get the gun owners to acquiesce simply from the pressures of so many constraints and burdensome regulations placed on gun ownership. It is supposed to be a Constitutional Right to bear arms for every legal US citizen yet with each new attempt at legislating control over guns it is becoming clearer that government simply does not want most Americans to own guns. Is this really a good thing? Pushing through this Bill this month too with little fanfare seems interesting at best.
